Measure What Matters - We are B Corp Certified!
Learn more about why we are proud to be a Certified B Corporation.
First, the big news: we are incredibly proud to be the first in the tree service industry to become a Certified B Corporation. This certification represents the culmination of a decade’s worth of work here at Leaf & Limb.
If you are not familiar with this concept, Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.
Stated another way, it means we care about more than just profit.
We also care about the well-being of our staff, our community, and in particular, our planet. This certification gives credence to our claims that we are a triple bottom line company.
We come from a broken industry where staff are often treated like expendable objects, and the community's well-being is usually ignored. In an ironic twist of fate, we give even less thought to our planet. Much of our industry regards itself as caring for trees when, in fact, most of what we do is cut them down or treat them with chemicals that do more harm than good.
This is not meant to be a judgment on our industry. We, too, have made all of these mistakes, and we continue to make mistakes each day. We know how hard our line of work can be, and all the serious issues that plague tree services daily. It’s a quagmire from which it is nearly impossible to escape.
Instead, we hope this serves as a message of hope. By changing how we measure success, our industry can elevate itself from out of the quagmire and become a wonderful place that empowers its staff, builds community, and increases the health of the planet.
In particular, caring for trees responsibly and planting new ones – without cutting down live trees – is a wonderful way to help heal our planet.
We have many serious environmental issues that we can overcome with the help of trees.
We can achieve all of this and more. All it takes is caring, learning, doing the right thing, and changing how we measure success.
For this reason, we love the Certified B Corporation movement, and we are extremely proud to join its ranks. There is so much more to life than money – people, community, and our planet are our greatest assets.
